Jantar Mantar

In 1718, the Maharajah Sawai Jaisingh decided to construct an observatory. After studying the subject with learned astronomers for several years, he constructed the first observatory in Delhi in 1724, then went on to construct others in other cities, including this one in Jaipur, built in 1728 and called Jantar Mantar. The largest and best preserved of these observatories, Jantar Mantar has a number of structures for following both the sun and moon.
