Playa Limoncito

Few things are more sybaritic than kayaking out to a beach that can only be approached by water and spending a morning being waited on and served lunch:

Back in San Jose, a visit to the National Museum

Housed in a grand old castle:

A persistent mystery is the existence of these perfectly round stones, found in all sizes and all over Costa Rica:

Stone seats with incised carvings

Of course, it had a lovely door I just had to photograph...

Out on the street, a lovely old wood shingled hotel:

The PreColumbian Gold Museum lives up to its name:

More of the PreColumbian Gold Museum

Bad photo, I know, but I loved this carved cat on his carved stool:

The museum also had an exhibit of work by a local woodcarver who carves animals out of sections of tree trunk; there's not a lot of detail, but the grace and elegance of the lines are wonderful:

Goodbye, Costa Rica

Our hotel specialized in elaborate floral arrangements; I'd never seen a fuzzy heliconia before!

The weary travelers, ready to head home...
