The Island of Djerba

Besides ferries, there is only one roadway connecting the island to the mainland of Tunisia, the short one marked on the left side of this map:


It's a now-paved causeway to the island, built in the 2nd C. A.D. by the Romans; it’s 8 km long and still quite impressive, even if the Roman wouldn't recognize it now...



In the town of Guellela on Djerba, their specialty is pottery...

...still made on a wooden kick-wheel.
