Mides and El Hamma

Our chariot:

The partially destroyed village of Mides, with its date palm oasis beyond:

Mides, restored:

Back to El Hamma, and down a rugged road past the hot springs’ cooling tower, we came to Dar Horchani, a private home being turned into a boutique B and B by the owner, who planted the oasis here 20 years ago after drilling two kilometers (over 6500 feet) to reach water. He designed the house himself and it’s exquisite, sort of Scheherazade meets the American Southwest, with lovely furnishings of palm wood, built-in benches, tiles, a pool, a hammam, etc.
