Khajuraho

The Chandelas, a Hindu dynasty, rose to power in the 10th century in this area and made their capital here at Khajuraho. Originally, there were about 85 structures here, mostly built of sandstone and granite between 950 and 1050 A.D., but only about 25 remain in various states of preservation.
