El Djem

Third-century A.D. El Djem was a Roman settlement (called Thysdrus by them) which contained the third largest Roman amphitheater in the world, still in a remarkable state of preservation despite centuries of being used as a stone quarry to build the nearby town of El Djem and the Great Mosque at Kairouan.
