Walking back through town to the bus, one of our number was pickpocketed, so a trip to the police station was next, where they insisted it couldn’t have been a local because such things never happen here. Indeed, Tunisia seems remarkably safe; you never feel you can’t walk in the towns at night, and people are polite and friendly. We met a German woman (sunburned, of course) at the livestock market who was on her 38th trip here!
