The Plitvička Lakes

A national park in the mountainous central part of Croatia, the Plitvička Lakes are on dolomite and limestone and separated from one another by travertine dams and cover an area of about two square kilometers. The Lakes are known for their distinctive colors, which vary depending on the mineral content of the water and the angle of sunlight. We were not particularly fortunate in the sunlight department when we were there, but still you can get an idea of how beautiful the Lakes are.
