St. Blaise's church and the Franciscan Monastery

No shortage of pretty churches in Dubrovnik. This is St. Blaise's, originally 14th-century Romanesque, but badly damaged in a 1667 earthquake and finally destroyed by a fire in 1706. The church was rebuilt in its present baroque style between 1706 and 1714. St. Blaise is the patron saint of Dubrovnik and images of him look down on the city from everywhere.


There's also a Franciscan monastery with a calming cloistered garden and what is claimed to be the oldest apothecary in Europe, dating from 1316-17




No church is without its relics...
