Road to Hoi An -- Hai Van Pass

On the drive to Hoi An, we stopped at a roadside place to watch them making the conical hats. These hats are two layers of reed sandwiching a cutout made from newspaper and colored with inks, so that when you hold it up to the sun, you can see the pattern.

Roadside water buffalo wranglers...

Hai Van ("Sea Clouds") Pass, the natural divide between North and South Vietnam, with both French and American bunker fortifications adorning it.

Foreign road sign translations are almost always amusing...who knew roads could be sloppy?
