The Erechtheion is an intricate temple with a complex plan to accommodate the radically uneven ground on the site. Construction was concluded in 406 BC, and soon thereafter, in 403 BC, Athens fell to the Spartans

It has two porches; this one at the south-west corner is supported by six massive female statues, the famous Caryatids.
