Downriver to Goritsy

Lumber alongside the rivers and canals, waiting for barges to pick them up

On board, we had a balalaika demonstration; some of them are quite beautifully decorated

The Resurrection Convent at Goritsy, along the Sheksna River. It was at this Convent that Ivan the Terrible off-loaded a couple of wives in the mid-1500s. It's very slowly being restored by a few nuns and some students.

We walked through town on our way to the Convent, taking in the charming houses, their folk art decoration and wonderful colors:
