The Bayon was also built between the late 12th century and the early 13th century by King Jayavarman VII, nearly 100 years after Angkor Wat itself. It was built on top of any earlier monument and is known for its giant four-sided faces, probably the faces of Jayavarman himself to signify his omnipresence.
