St Ignatius Church

These stairs, designed by Pietro Passalacqua and reminiscent of Rome's Spanish Steps, were badly damaged in the 1991-2 siege of Dubrovnik, but have been restored.
They end at the baroque church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, modeled after Rome's Chiesa del Gesu, the mother church of the Jesuit order, completed in 1725.

Must have a grotto, don't you know...

What a beautiful church and setting! Another place for my list. If I never make it, at least as a novice (architecture student), I made the pilgrimage to Il Gesu in Rome.

Peyton, I do hope you make it to the Dalmatian coast sometime - the architecture is delicious and I've just given a few samples, so go someplace besides Taiwan next year, eh?
