Ardmore - St. Declan's Oratory and the Round Tower

As I mentioned earlier, St. Declan was really the one who brought Christianity to Ireland in 446 A.D., but he seems not to have had the PR savvy St. Patrick mustered. The oratory dates from about the 8th century and St. Declan's traditional burial place.

Round towers were built by the monks of early Irish monasteries as places of refuge from Viking raids and native Irish chieftains. Ardmore's round tower is a particularly nice one:
