Kilkenny Castle & Design Centre

The original Anglo-Norman stone castle here was built in the first decade of the 13th century, but like all such buildings, it's been added to over the years, especially in the 19th century.

The castle's grounds serve as a great public park.
Across the road in the former stable block is the Kilkenny Design Centre, which gives studio space to all kinds of working Irish artists. It has a gallery space, an extensive store selling only Irish artisan goods, and a conference center.
