My apologies for the large number of photos of this gorgeous waterbuck and his mate, but hands down, they're my favorite African antelope:
Notice the white ring around the rear, sort of a perfect target:
This is the shy red hartebeest, indigenous to this area of Africa only. To me, they look like the "rare plum-hued topi," frankly, but never mind...
They can drink oddly in their own way, too:

Diana, I love your photos (especially as I'm taking same tour in January 2013)!! Your narrative is excellent (throughout), and the accompanying photos make me feel like I've already been there.
I have lots of Southern Africa animal books, and I've double-checked. The first three pictures on this page are Common Waterbucks, and the other two fit best in the description of Red Hartebeest I found in the Audobon FIELD GUIDE TO AFRICAN WILDLIFE.
